Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking a Fiscal Coordinator – Program Coordinator at a I or II level to manage fiscal operations of one or more departments and support college level, finance related activities.

Responsibilities include developing financial reports and projections; developing the annual departmental budgets and tracking adjustments; collecting and analyzing data for compiling annual reports; approving departmental purchasing; managing Foundation accounts and sponsored grants; advising principal investigators (PI’s) on federal and state regulations, proposal procedures, and university regulations on grants/contracts. Additionally, this position will provide oversight of account reconciliation and reviewing and approving all financially related transactions for appropriateness and allowability.

In addition to the above, the Program Coordinator II will have more college level financial responsibilities including development and implementation of college-wide accounting, audit, and year-end procedures; development of multi-year plans will an all-fund approach for departments; and development and implement systematic internal audit approaches including entity performance metrics and best practices for every departments.

The successful candidate must possess strong organizational and leadership skills; excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to work independently and manage a heavy workload; and maintain high standards at all times.

Program Coordinator II: Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 8 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Degree in accounting, business, or related field.
  • Experience in financial forecasting and analysis.
  • Accounting experience.
  • Experience with spreadsheets and databases.
  • Experience with ISU general, foundation, and/or federal fund policies and procedures.
  • Experience in a college, university, or non-profit setting.
