Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Human Resources Office of Ames Laboratory is seeking applications for a Human Resources Coordinator to be filled at the Program Coordinator I level. Ames Laboratory is a Department of Energy (DOE) funded national laboratory operated through contractual agreement with Iowa State University (ISU). This position will support Ames Laboratory in all areas of Human Resource management for a group of approximately 400 faculty, staff, postdocs, and students and approximately 200 additional facility users and collaborators.

The HR Coordinator will be responsible for the management of the Postdoctoral Research Associate employment process, including recruitment, oversight of screening and interviews, and processing hiring documents (including any required visas); in collaboration with Ames Laboratory principal investigators. In addition the Coordinator will provide professional Human Resources support in the areas of talent acquisition, employee/labor relations, classification, compensation, reporting (both to DOE and within Ames Laboratory/ISU), diversity and inclusion, performance management, human resources focused training, on-boarding, education programs, and outreach.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to positively influence and impact the Ames Laboratory through the building of strong relationships, the ability to work independently or as a member of a team, and the ability to exercise judgement and discretion are critical skills for this position. The ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization, and of various cultural backgrounds are also key skills for success in this position.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 6 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.

Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Experience in talent acquisition (recruitment of wide variety of positions)

Experience in other HR areas such as: classification and compensation, employee/labor relations, diversity and inclusion, etc.

Experience that demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point) for communication, data management, presentations, and reporting.

HR experience in a research, government or university setting.

Experience with HR information systems (i.e., applicant tracking and/or position management systems, Workday, etc.)

Additional HR experience.
