Job Title : Trailer Manager

Location : Onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA (1332 Edgewood Rd SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404)

Job Schedule : Monday-Friday (7:30 AM-4:30 PM)

Job Summary : The Trailer Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a fleet of trucks. The main task is to ensure the fleet is well-maintained, meets legal requirements, and operates efficiently to maximize productivity and minimize costs. This role includes managing and developing relationships with drivers to increase overall driver satisfaction and improve driver retention. Additionally, working closely with drivers to coordinate deliveries and ensure timely arrivals at destinations is crucial. Communication, analytical, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role. The main focus is to meet customer needs for trailer health.

Day in the Job Preview : As a Trailer Manager, your role involves meeting customer trailer pool needs, maintaining optimal trailer levels, overseeing trailer logistics including drop-off/loading locations, maintenance, equipment sales, and legal compliance, collaborating with internal teams, and communicating logistics to customers effectively.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities :

  • Develop and cultivate partnerships with third-party providers specializing in moving CRST equipment, including price negotiation, carrier development/expansion, and proactive tracking.

  • Build and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) focused on overall network trailer effectiveness, including revenue, maintenance, balance, pools, and chargebacks.

  • Maintain trailer needs for customers at their locations for CRST awarded business.

  • Manage reporting and resolution for trailers due for maintenance, including scheduled PMs, on-site repairs, and holding internal and external parties accountable for trailer damage.

  • Manage reporting and resolution for mismatched trailers at locations, involving direct follow-up with customers and internal operations to enhance accuracy.

  • Manage reporting and resolution for unauthorized movements, addressing accountability for both internal and external parties.

  • Analyze power-only activity within the CRST network and make recommendations to improve trailer utilization, balance, and service for CRST customers.

  • Manage internal trailer balance among CRST customers, operating companies, and agents, which may include resource transfer or alignment to appropriate business units.

  • Manage reporting and execution of trailers being sold and the incorporation of new trailers into the CRST fleet, including point-of-sale locations, mode of transportation, and injection sites.

Job Requirements :

  • Successful completion of a CRST background check and drug screen is required.

  • High school diploma or GED is required.

  • 1-2 years of transportation experience.

Ideal Experience & Skillset :

  • 6-12 months of transportation planning experience.

  • Multi-tasking, managing a high number of relationships, sense of urgency.

  • McLeod (LME)/system knowledge experience.

  • MS Office (Excel).

  • AA or BA in a relevant field.
