Job Description

The State of Iowa, Department of Management (DOM), Division of Information Technology is seeking a Senior Networking Engineer. This is a hybrid position which will require time in the office. We are looking for a highly motivated, skilled Information Technology Specialist 5 to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our client’s IT systems. This position will be responsible for maintaining cutting-edge IT infrastructure and providing exceptional technical support to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and support existing customer IT infrastructure, troubleshooting systems and business applications to resolution or escalation.

  • Provide maintenance and support for various devices including Firewalls (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto), F5 Load Balancers, VPN solutions, Cisco/Meraki switches, and Wireless Infrastructure.

  • Monitor Agency infrastructure resources, identify opportunities for optimization, and plan for future requirements.

  • Follow Agency policies and procedures, contributing ideas for optimization to positively impact the customer.

  • Manage special technical projects and IT roll-outs for customers.

  • Utilize available resources to aid in incident resolution effectively and efficiently.

  • Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.

  • Perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Contribute to the achievement of established SLAs.

  • Collaborate with the team to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications for additions or changes to customer infrastructure.

  • Assist in troubleshooting hardware and software problems as they arise, and maintain system security features.

  • Support all users by researching and coordinating problem resolution related to connectivity and permissions.

  • Control and maintain the flow of data into, within, out of, and among applications and locations.

  • Interpret, communicate, and enforce information management policies for the enterprise.

  • Verify that system updates and security patches are applied as required.

  • Participate in On-Call rotation.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to three years of full-time work in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; designing/administering websites; or executing technology projects (e.g., systems analysis, requirements, design, development, and testing).

2) All of the following (a and b):

a. Three years of full-time work experience in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; designing/administering websites; or executing technology projects (e.g., systems analysis, requirements, design, development, and testing); and

b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

3) All of the following (a and b):

a. Three years of full-time work experience in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; designing/administering websites; or executing technology projects (e.g., systems analysis, requirements, design, development, and testing); and

b. Certification by an authorized educational institution/major computer or software producer in an area directly related to one of the computer specialty fields described in part a.

4) All of the following (a and b):

a. Three years of full-time work experience in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; designing/administering websites; or executing technology projects (e.g., systems analysis, requirements, design, development, and testing); and

b. Eighteen semester hours of accredited post-high-school coursework in one of the specialty fields described in part a.

5) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of fulltime work as an Information Technology Specialist 4.

Additional Qualification Requirements

418 Network Management

6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both involving:

· Cisco equipment configuration or troubleshooting

· SNA Server

· Host Integration

· Server configuration

· Management

· Troubleshooting

· Basic understanding of TCP/IP

· Network troubleshooting for network equipment

· Network performance and network connectivity

726 Firewalls

985 Network Monitoring Development

6 months experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both where the applicant has been directly involved in development and administration of data and analysis of standard MIB and related monitoring data of wide area communications network elements:

· Establish requirements for network monitoring tools

· Setup and management of related applications and databases

· Generate schemes for concise event correlation and reporting

· Develop network status maps and reporting displays to be utilized by network support technicians

· Create succinct network health and overall status reports for status changes, outages/impairments, and cyber security concerns.
