Distinguishing Features of the Class
Under supervision, to perform specialized work in the oversight of the removal process involved with impounded junk and abandoned vehicles and related matters. Performs technical and administrative work involving the use of independent judgment. Acts as staff to an Administrator and appropriate staff including inspectors.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two years of experience in inspection and enforcement work, or an equivalent combination in which additional education may be substituted for experience at the rate of one year of education for each year of experience. Possession of a valid State of Iowa Motor Vehicle Operators license or proof of equivalent mobility.
IF SUBSTITUTING ADDITIONAL EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT, MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS AS VERIFICATION OF PROOF BY APPLICATION DEADLINE.
Required Special Qualifications:
LICENSE OR OTHER REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid Iowa driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen.
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only):
Schedules vehicles for impound through designated towing contractors.
Contacts owners to obtain necessary authorization to remove an abandoned vehicle.
Assists inspectors during public nuisance and court ordered cleanups in the impoundment of vehicles from private property.
Determines vehicle identification number. Maintains daily reports and monthly logs of towed vehicles.
Prepares reports and correspondence in accordance with division policy. Performs related administrative, clerical, and support duties as required.
