Overview:

Central DeWitt Ekstrand Elementary is seeking a passionate and dedicated School Counselor to join our team. As a vital member of our school community, the School Counselor will provide comprehensive counseling services to students in grades pk through 3. The ideal candidate will be committed to promoting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of our students, fostering a positive school climate, and collaborating closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns.

  • Conduct assessments and develop personalized plans to support students' academic and personal growth.

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student needs and develop strategies for intervention and support.

  • Deliver classroom lessons on bullying prevention, conflict resolution, study skills, and social-emotional learning.

  • Coordinate with community resources and outside agencies to provide additional support and services for students and families as needed.

  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plan meetings to support students and families

  • Implement school-wide initiatives to promote a positive school climate and prevent bullying and harassment.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Stay current on best practices in school counseling and participate in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or related field from an accredited institution.

  • Iowa School Counselor certification or eligibility for certification.

  • Previous experience working as a school counselor is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and collaborate with colleagues.

  • Knowledge of counseling techniques and best practices in social-emotional learning.

Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to school counseling.
