POSITION PURPOSE:

These positions will be required to conduct routine tests and related duties for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. These tests will be conducted following established standards of practice.

What you will do:

  • Consult with and keep the manager informed of activities, needs, and problems.

  • The technician may be assigned to a specific laboratory section or may rotate in all sections as assigned. Any or all of the following may be assigned:

  • Urinalysis (dipstick and microscopic)

  • Hematology (CBC, retic, sed-rate, and differentials)

  • Coagulation studies

  • Chemistries

  • Therapeutic drugs

  • Blood gases

  • Transfusion services

  • Serology Tests

  • Plan, organize, and prioritize duties to accomplish daily assignments and objectives.

  • Perform duties according to established standards and practices/procedures.

  • Follow strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis in performing duties.

  • Assemble supplies and equipment as needed.

  • Assure equipment and supplies are ordered and requisitioned following outlines in procedure manuals.

  • Identify, label specimens, and package specimens received and collected.

  • Store specimens for future reference and discard specimens over 48 hours old.

  • Record, report, and post test results as required.

  • File, mail, fax, or phone reports to physicians ordering testing.

  • Process charges.

  • Perform phlebotomy on newborn, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients proficiently.

  • Be knowledgeable on appropriate reference ranges for male/female, newborn, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

  • Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains according to standard practice.

  • Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards and comply with the requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.

  • Maintain required records, reports, statistics, logs, and files.

  • Attend in-service and meetings as required.

  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshop conferences, and professional affiliations, webinars and CEU’s.

  • Completion of annual Lab competency.

  • Competent in the use of CERNER EMR.

  • This position requires that the employee travel to and from work on short notice, take call and work weekends/OT if needed.

  • Operation of equipment (Examples: analyzers, centrifuge, microscope, incubators, and pipettes).

  • Perform preventative maintenance according to departmental policies and manufacture guidelines.

  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

  • Must obtain following certifications: MLT – 2-year certification.

  • Displays a caring compassionate behavior and demonstrates responsiveness to the needs of the patient, families, peers, and staff.

  • Good communication with the providers, and designated, internal and external, facilities.

  • Knowledge of computer applications.
