  • Position objective:* A Content Specialist III applies expert content knowledge, flexibly and creatively, to further the work of the content team in exemplary ways. An individual in this position brings a global perspective and has a broad knowledge of curriculum and workforce trends relative to the field of learning and assessment. The individual has a thorough understanding of best practices in test development, contributes to process improvement activities, assists in building expertise of the content team, and has proven ability to consistently create and deliver high quality test materials on schedule.

Typical work-related activities include:

  • Contribute to the development of ACT strategy relative to standards (e.g. CCRS) in the K-Career space for specified content area

  • Contribute to conceptualizing, designing, building, and evaluating test development systems

  • Contribute to recruiting and sourcing efforts to identify content providers

  • Participate in interactions / communications with content providers, building relationships and communication channels to promote collective growth

  • Conduct senior content review prior to and after external content and fairness reviews and approve final version of content; select tests/item pool based on the test specifications

  • Review ancillary materials

  • Contribute to root cause analysis activities

  • Contribute to proposal responses

  • Contribute to overall quality assurance of content including scoring monitoring

  • Approve content alignments

  • Approve item/passage/stimulus pool gap analysis

  • Approve content authoring assignments and passage/stimuli selection (attending to accessibility and text complexity)

  • Approve trans-adapted and accommodated content

  • Approve documentation (e.g., test maps) to support content export

  • Approve rubric/scoring criteria, range finding, validation, and calibration papers

  • Performance scoring training



  • Bachelor’s degree in content or related field required, graduate degree preferred

  • Or equivalent combination of education and related experience


  • Three years’ test development experience

  • Two years’ workplace or teaching experience preferred


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Innovative thinker

  • Strong time management skills

  • Excellent collaborator and team leader

  • Ability to establish and enforce schedules and deadlines

  • Proficient interpreter of item and test statistics and cognitive model definitions

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding corporate information
