The Center, now in the midst of a multiyear expansion, has broad research interests, and current faculty have strong collaborative interactions throughout the Carver College of Medicine and the University. Outstanding research space with state-of-the-art shared instrumentation is available in the Pappajohn Biomedical Research Building (PBRB).They will have a primary faculty appointment in one of the basic science or clinical departments in Carver College of Medicine. The recruitment will be conducted cooperatively by one or more of these departments and the FOEDRC. The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in a multidisciplinary University of Iowa Obesity Initiative (OI), encompassing research and education, and will be appointed to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center (FOEDRC). New faculty will complement the University's existing expertise to form the core of this ambitious initiative.All applications should include a CV and a 3 to 5 page summary of research accomplishments and future plans. This includes a PhD or MD degree or equivalent and an outstanding record of accomplishments in research, teaching, and service.Required Qualifications:Applicants must have a relevant doctoral degree and productive research experience focusing on topics of broad interest to diabetes and obesity. These may include, but not be restricted to, areas such as mitochondrial metabolism, beta cell function, adipokines, inflammation, appetite/weight control insulin resistance and diabetes complications.Applicants will be judged on their potential to initiate and maintain a vigorous, independent research program and to teach and train students and postdoctoral fellows.The successful candidate should have the demonstrated capacity to foster an environment in which excellence in research, teaching, and scholarship can flourish, as well as experience and interest in developing and leading research programs.Desirable Qualifications:Desirable attributes include a record of innovative and effective administrative and fiscal leadership, a record of excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated experience promoting a diverse workforce, and positive interactions with students, staff and faculty.
