HNI IT Business Analyst, Product Lifecycle Management in Muscatine, Iowa


HNI seeks an experienced and self-motivated PLM Business Analyst to support and grow the global initiative of Strategic Product Data Management (SPDM). This program seeks to drive innovation and transformation to HNI’s Engineering community based on the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) foundation of PTC Windchill. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a challenging, global implementation of process and technology that will directly influence the Engineering and Business community that build and maintain HNI’s world class products.

This is a hybrid position that combines a 70-30% mix of Business Analyst and Project Management roles. The candidate will be responsible for research, analysis, design, implementation and testing of SPDM related business solutions. This includes the ability to identify, evaluate and document requirements for business process change, and ensuring these requirements are translated into effective solutions. Additionally, you will manage small to medium projects: assemble teams, assign responsibilities, develop schedules, and perform implementations. The role is designed to be in partnership with the HNI business community and deliver effective process solutions that meet the SPDM global initiative.

Essential Functions:

  • Understand the business process areas assigned and become a subject matter expert in the day to day operations and activities of those areas of responsibility

  • Partner with internal business teams to define implementation projects (i.e. requirements, documentation, systems configuration, use cases, test documentation and execution, issue identification and resolution)

  • Act as an advocate of Product Lifecycle Management best practices, methods, and processes

  • Plan, prioritize, and deliver systems enhancements

  • Support and upgrade implemented systems

  • Responsible for the development of functional specifications for projects assigned, which describe the functional design of the system, its RICEW (reports, interface, conversion, enhancements/extension and workflow) needs, and gap analysis

  • Provides timely creation and updates of key documents as determined by the project manager for assigned projects

  • Manages small to medium software/process implementation projects using HNI project management methodology

  • Other duties may be assigned



  • Associate’s degree with a business related emphasis or concentration in IT or a related technical field

  • Bachelor’s degree or MBA preferred


  • Must be able to analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems to provide data processing and procedural enhancements

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work within the guidelines of a Project Management framework

  • Clearly and concisely expresses professional opinions with supporting rationale

  • Ability to motivate others to work toward common organizational goals

  • Performs a multiplicity of tasks, often changing from one to another, without loss of concentration or composure

  • Adapts to both working alone, or as part of a larger team, for varying duration

  • Demonstrates professional behavior when communicating and working with members, vendors and/or customers

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to effectively present information and training in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and other members of the organization

Experience & Skills:

  • Highly beneficial to have experience working with any major PLM solution, preferably PTC Windchill
