Position Requirements and Preferences:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred; (Alternative credentials with sufficient experience also considered)

Experience: Experience working with students, faculty, staff and employers; as well as experience working with activities and special events preferred.

Abilities:

  • General knowledge of – or ability to learn about – career development strategies;

  • Independent decision making, ability to exercise good judgement, accuracy, flexibility and well developed critical thinking skills;

  • Ability to work in an environment of shifting priorities, frequent interruptions, hectic pace, high level of interaction with students, staff and/or the public;

  • Working knowledge of computer software programs which may include Microsoft Office programs, learning-management programs, or other institutional software;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including proficiency in business English, grammar, punctuation and discretion;

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in completely assigned tasks and meeting deadlines;

  • Excellent customer service skills including phone and in-person reception etiquette;

  • Proficiency with office machines including fax, scanner and copy machine;

  • Ability to travel and to work occasional evening and weekend hours;

  • Is an effective TEAM player.

Position Summary:

The Career Services Assistant Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the overall development and management of career services programs to benefit students, including modeling professionalism and workforce readiness. The Assistant Coordinator supports the mission of William Penn University, as well as Career Services’ complementary mission to support students as they transition from the academic environment to the work place or in their pursuit of post-graduate education.

Responsibilities:

  • Works part-time hours.

  • Completes training component related to Career Services and available tools.

  • Manages Career Mentoring Program; oversees and promotes online career mentoring process for use by current students and alumni in collaboration with Alumni Relations and the Office of Advancement.

  • Assists in promoting the Career Mentoring program.

  • Assists the Coordinator and intern team, as needed, with the Career Ready Internship program, intern payroll, and grant reporting.

  • Provides individual and group career counseling to students and alumni to assist with career decision-making.

  • Administers career assessments (such as COPS) as requested, and helps students interpret them.

  • Assists in research, design and delivery of workshops, class presentations and panels on career-related issues, including self-assessment, career exploration, job search strategies, graduate school, and overall professional development.

  • Assists with the development, marketing, promotion, and coordination of ICoRN Interview Days, Networking Socials, Career Development Month activities, and other events and activities sponsored by Career Services.

  • Makes in-class presentations regarding Career events, activities, and services, as appropriate.

  • Cultivates and monitors partnerships with faculty, current and potential internship sites, employers and alumni.

  • Attends ICoRN meetings, as appropriate, and seminars, conferences, and webinars related to Career Services.

  • Encourages students to engage in information interviews, job shadowing, etc. with alumni and employers.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of marketing strategies of career services to students, faculty, employers and alumni, including use of Social Media.

  • Responsible for helping keep Career Services social media platforms up-to-date.

  • Advises and coaches students on resume and letter writing, networking and interviewing, and the use of online tools like the Penn Job Blog and Purposely.com; and social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

  • May supervise Career Services work/study student in absence of Coordinator.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Career Services Coordinator.
