Great Prairie Area Education Agency School Social Worker SEBH Interventionist in Ottumwa, Iowa

Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening for an School Social Worker SEBH Interventionist.

192-day contract (plus 2 orientation days initial year) beginning with the2024-2025 school year.

Region 3:Cardinal, Davis County, Moulton-Udell, Ottumwa, Ottumwa Christian and Seton Catholic.

Position Overview: The SEBH SW will partner with local schools to develop a MTSS focused on SEBH (social-emotional-behavioral health) needs of students and provide direct services to students in need.

Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program.
  2. Iowa Department of Public Health - Licensed Independent Social Worker

Responsibilities:

  1. Support school efforts to develop and implement a MTSS for SEBH.
  2. Participate as a member of a school-based intervention team.
  3. Support SEBH screening processes in schools.
  4. Provide consultation to general and special education teachers related to SEBH needs of students.
  5. Provide direct therapeutic services to students with SEBH needs.
  6. Assist with the planning and participate in a school social work network for those providing direct services in schools.
  7. Participate as part of a team in the Child Find process in order to provide an effective, efficient and economical means of identifying and serving children who require special education.
  8. Participate in the development, implementation and assessment of research based SEBH interventions and services.
  9. Support region-based core teams and/or the Challenging Behavior and Autism Team to address the needs of individual students.
  10. Provide professional development to AEA and LEA staff on a variety of topics which may include, but is not limited to, the following: suicide prevention and postvention, trauma-informed classrooms, adult self-care strategies, de-escalation strategies, MTSS-SEBH continuum, screening assessments, SAEBRS, YMHFA, and Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to travel between schools/sites served.
  2. Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking. At times, the job may also involve above average levels of activity which can't always be anticipated.
