Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
General Statement of Duties Under general supervision performs all types of work related to and shall be responsible for handling the administrative details of the Gas Apprenticeship Programs in accordance with standards and procedures established and directed by the Gas General Apprenticeship Committee, the Oversight Committee and the manager of gas training programs, all in compliance with the Department of Labor rules and regulations.
Performs work in a safe manner. Complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner to protect themselves, their fellow employees and the general public from injury.
Schedule classes, prepare class material and assist trainers and instructors in conducting classes and perform as an instructor as needed and or appropriate.
Coordinate the needed facilities for the apprentices, trainers, and instructors both on MidAmerican Energy property and off. This would include securing rooms for training classes and overnight stays, arranging meals and notifying appropriate Company personnel on the dates the apprentices and trainers will be attending classes.
Research and recommend training material. Prepare and present class material to the General Apprenticeship Committee to make sure they are up to date for the work being performed.
Procure material and equipment for the proper training of apprentices or follow-up training for journeyman.
Examples of record keeping, but not limited to: On the job learning (OJL), supplemental training records, tests, quarterly reports, evaluations, Department of Labor (DOL) letters, advancement forms, Operator Qualifications/forms, if applicable to the apprenticeship.
Advise supervision of apprentices status relative to supplemental training, OJL hours on needed tasks and other items related to the proper administration of the programs.
Develop and coordinate training under the direction of the General Apprenticeship Committee.
Under the direction of the General Apprenticeship Committee, work with the local apprenticeship committee on the Articles of Administration to review progress of apprentices, interviews and recommend placement of apprentices in the proper step, all to drive and ensure consistency.
Assist in the recommendation, selection and education of instructors and or subject matter experts (SME).
Assist in the development of training for non-apprentice jobs and refresher training as needed and directed.
Attend Local and General Apprenticeship Committee meetings as necessary.
Attend seminars and off site training opportunities, as needed and approved by management.
Assist Local Committee's in establishing a pool of test questions, both written and hands on, to be drawn from and used by the Local Committee's in a consistent manner among and between the Local Committees in doing the step advancements test.
Work with the DOL Bureau of Apprenticeships web-site to assist MidAmerican Energy apprenticeship programs to stay in compliance with Federal Standards.
Assist Local Apprenticeship Committee with orientation of new apprentices.
Monitor progress with the apprentice, local apprenticeship committee, supervisor and journeyman on a regular basis. Counsel apprentices as needed.
Maintain communication between yourself, the apprentice, the Local Committee, the Local Union Hall, the apprentice's supervisor and manager, and General Apprenticeship Committee.
Must be a journeyman in the gas field and maintain these qualifications.
Six years prior work experience as a journeyman in the gas field.
Must have experience with various types of work in connection with the installation, operation, and maintenance of regulator, odorizing and metering equipment in town border stations (TBS), district regulator stations (DRS) and industrial regulator and meter stations, including all auxiliary or control regulators and proper connection of control and loading lines to regulators.
Must have experience in training and providing instruction to trainees working in the gas meter and regulation (M&R) field.
Leadership skills to provide instruction, direction, and guidance to personnel. Communication skills to provide direction in both written and verbal communication and to communicate effectively.
Certifications in training are desirable.
Valid Driver's License
Travel may be required.
Pipeline and Alcohol Drug Testing id required.
