Primary Location: IA-Algona Organization: HPD-Iowa Job: Logistical/Transportation Transportation Supervisor 1 (Night Shift) - (20001584)DescriptionSummarySupervises the transportation function for the feed delivery operations to ensure safe, efficient, timely and accurate loading, transportation and unloading of feed. The transportation function includes feed and ingredient delivery. Operates in compliance with federal, state and local DOT regulations. The supervisor performs the following duties personally or through subordinates. Participates in - interviewing, hiring, and training drivers; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance evaluation; coaching, disciplining and rewarding employees; addressing complaints and solving problems; maintaining a safe and compliant department.Essential Duties and Responsibilities* Manages the day-to-day operations within the transportation function including the supervision and training of drivers, contractors, and feed loadout operators. Develops teamwork among this group.* Fills in driving in emergency situations.* Handles disciplinary problems for rule and policy violations. * Creates and communicates presentations effectively* Facilitates driver meetings* Assists with vehicle accidents, investigations and follow-up* Participate in the interviewing and hiring of CDL drivers.* Ensures compliance with federal and state DOT requirements including driver files, hours of service, training requirements, and keeps up with changes.* Ensures compliance to EMS, BMS, IPS, ISO 22000, FDA, TQA, and DOT programs.* Provides leadership to establish a safe working environment and culture including safety audits, safety meetings, safety procedures and safety rules. Reviews and updates work instructions at least annually or as needed.* Provides input regarding key performance indicators (KPI's).* Ensures the operation is functioning in an environmentally responsible way by adhering to state and federal requirements and practicing approved land and nutrient management techniques. Functions as a company steward of land resources. * Maintains good communication with drivers, logistics/loaders, and growers* Promote team concept and SHP values* Ensure all safety policies are taught and followed * Review drivers' HOS daily to prevent DOT violations* Review driver performance using Samsara and drivers' logs* Ensure good housekeeping procedures are followed* Ensure compliance with all SHP MS (EMS, BMS, SIPS), ISO and DOT programs)* Completes paperwork and reports as required* Other duties as assigned by the ManagerQualificationsQualifications* 2 years supervisory experience required; 5 or more years supervisory experience preferred. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Computer knowledge (MB Feed, JDE, Excel, PowerPoint and on-board computer software.) To be successful in this position must be able to evaluate performance using excel and other evaluating tools. * Must have a valid IA license, CDL class A license preferred. * College degree preferred or equivalent combination of education experience, and training.* Excellent management skills including planning, organizing, monitoring and staffing.* Thorough understanding of DOT rules and regulations* Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule Holidays and weekends as needed.* Must be on call to work in emergency situations such as power outages, accidents, or personnel shortagesJob Posting: Nov 11, 2020 Posting End Date: Feb 9, 2021Smithfield is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action (EEO/AA) Employer.
