Required Minimum Qualifications:• Five years of clerical office experience, including three years experience with bookkeeping procedures, or Any combination of directly related post high school education in an accredited school and directly related clerical experience which totals five years.

Preferred Qualifications:2-3 year of experience in accounting or bookkeeping

Experience with accounting software and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

Experience with accounts payable and audit prep

Job Description:

At the Iowa State University Alumni Center, we're dedicated to fostering a strong community and supporting the success of our alumni. We're looking for a detail-oriented Account Specialist to join our dynamic team and contribute to our mission by managing payroll and budget functions for a key segment of our institution.

As an Account Specialist, you'll handle a variety of financial tasks to ensure our financial operations run smoothly and efficiently.

What You’ll Do:

  • Monitor financial, personnel, and operational activities across multiple accounts and divisions

  • Analyze financial requests and recommend appropriate funding sources

  • Prepare periodic financial reports

  • Reconcile payroll records

  • Initiate requisitions and vouchers

  • Maintain and reconcile accounting records

  • Balance accounts receivable and accounts payable

  • Verify expense vouchers and process cash advances

  • Provide information on policies and procedures

  • Keep accurate records of deposits and payments

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.

• Knowledge of spreadsheets and on-line accounting systems.

• Knowledge of accounting forms and procedures of the institution.

• Skill in operating office equipment.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and interpret institutional and other policies accurately.

• Ability to perform arithmetic computations.

• Ability to gather, analyze, and display data in appropriate format and keep accurate records.

• Ability to make decisions requiring interpretation and judgment.

• Ability to exercise functional supervision over employees.

• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and the public.
