Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management (AESHM) in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a 9-month term faculty position (non-tenure track) at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to oversee, teach, and direct the beverage management course offerings and serve as an expert in many of the following areas: wine, spirits, beer, and mixology. Initial appointment length is one year. Renewal parameters are determined by performance and department need.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate logistics related to offering beverage management courses (i.e. purchasing, receiving, and coordinating undergraduate teaching assistants)

  • Teach highly experiential and large undergraduate courses in wine, beer, spirits, mixology, beverage management, and other related areas as needed in a lecture/lab with a tasting format

  • Ensure alignment between products being purchased and tasted with teaching objectives

  • Support faculty and students in beverage management-related issues

  • Work collaboratively with the hospitality management program to grow and adjust beverage management course offerings to ensure alignment with the needs of industry and student demand.

  • Serve as liaison between the hospitality management program and the beverage management industry

  • Be involved with curriculum, serve on committees, and assume other responsibilities normally associated with an assistant teaching professor

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in hospitality management or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in the beverage management industry. Certifications relevant to the beverage industry can substitute for experience.

  • Prior teaching experience at the university/college level in Beverage Management.

The Department of Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management is one of five academic units in the College of Human Sciences and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. The Iowa State University’s Beverage Management courses are offered by the Hospitality Management program.
