Located in the heart of Iowa State’s campus, the Office of Student Financial Aid is a unit within the Division of Academic Affairs that administers more than $400 million in federal, state, institutional, and private funds to over 85% of undergraduate students, along with additional support for domestic graduate students seeking aid. We strive to help all students succeed in their Iowa State experience through education and outreach to create an understanding of available financial aid opportunities.

About the role:

  • This position will be located within the Office of Student Financial Aid Scholarship Unit.

  • Hiring/training/supervising the employees within the Scholarship Unit and the Student Employment Center.

  • This position will inform students and families of their financial aid options, including how to submit aid applications, as well as information on federal and institutional aid availability and eligibility requirements.

  • Informing on aid applications and awards, scholarship availability and eligibility requirements.

  • Ensure that the Office of Student Financial Aid is in compliance, adhering to federal, state, and institutional rules and regulations.

  • Assists with awarding funds in a timely manner.

  • Monitors Admissions and International Admissions awards.

  • Reviews and awards Office of Student Financial aid scholarships.

  • Inform students and their families of the affordability of Iowa State is also essential to our role.

  • As a Financial Aid Advisor III, you will have the ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment.

  • You must be detail-oriented, creative, and possess the ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks, as well as be a self-motivated individual with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Level Guidelines• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff• May provide supervision to one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist• Provides guidance to students
