GREATER IOWA CREDIT UNION Mortgage Loan Officer in Ames, Iowa

We are currently seeking an experienced Mortgage Loan Officer to be responsible for originating, secondary market, and closed ended residential real estate mortgages within the field of membership. Work directly with prospective borrowers and applicants from initial contact through closing to ensure a seamless and positive member experience. Work collaboratively with the underwriting and processing team to gather requirement file documentation and offer recommendations where appropriate. Issue appropriate and accurate compliance documents. Price loans according to credit union standards. Foster relationships with members, potential members, branch partners, realtors and other referral sources to build referral applicant pipeline. Represents the credit union at community events or activities. A preferred Bilingual (English and Spanish) applicant are strongly recommended to apply.

Location: Ames Area Locations

Hours: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm or as needed to meet with Members

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and grow a new mortgage loan referral pipeline through proactive outreach and engagement with community realtors, attorneys, financial advisors, CPA's and other external centers of influence, branch partners and community organizations. New Business development activity to include weekly scheduled in-person calls and off-site meetings with external referral sources. Responsible for generating real estate loans to meet the lending goals and objectives of the credit union. Handle mortgage loans of highest complexity, value, and risk.
  • Interview applicants to determine and recommend the best loan product to fit their needs. Pre-qualify prospective borrowers and inform them of loan options, market conditions, and necessary documentation to close a potential loan. Provide information and promote credit union products and services to members. Identify ancillary product sales opportunities.
  • Attends all first time homebuyer closings and other purchase closing as required. Maintain and foster a relationship with members for potential real estate and other loan product referrals.
  • Support the processing and preparation of the loan for closing by exhibiting knowledge of state and federal regulations governing real estate transactions. Provide expertise and support with loan resolution matters.
  • Assist in the review of guidelines, programs, and updates or changes to the credit union's mortgage policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.

Education: A two year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or equivalent work experience in the field.

Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

Other Skills 1. Working knowledge and experience with secondary market residential real estate lending. 2. Proven track record in generating purchase loan applications and production volume over time. 3. Maintain up to date knowledge of federal lending regulations governing residential real estate lending including conventional and governmental programs. 4. Ability to present information with diplomacy and tact. 5. Display interpersonal, networking, and relationship building skills. 6. Working knowledge of secondary market underwriting guidelines. 7. Familiarity with Maxwell, Encompass, and Optimal Blue Programs is Beneficial. 8. Bilingual language skills are beneficial. 9. Excellent math and analytical abilities. 10. Ability to operate standard office equipment. 11. Ability to lift, move, or transfer items, materials, or product u to 25 lbs.
