Northwood Preschool is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Northwood Principal, the preschool teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress; addressing specific educational needs of individual students; creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and autcomes. Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Plans daily lessons and activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children and are aligned to state and district standards that meet students' individual needs.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve learning.

  • Participates and engages in professional learning, including CPR and first aid.

  • Demonstrates competence in planning and preparing for instruction.

  • Monitors student learning on a daily basis and use multiple data points to guide instruction.

  • Ensures the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs.

  • Supports the implementation of MTSS to meet the needs of all students.

  • Fulfills all the responsibilities of the IEP: timely and current progress monitoring, uses progress monitoring to guide instruction, etc.

  • Utilizes developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times.

  • Establishes a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service.

  • Trains and supervises Educational Associates in the classroom to ensure they are following program policy and expectations.

  • Conducts child assessments and facilitates parent-teacher conferences.

  • Follows and abides by District policies.

Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching license with certification in Early Childhood Education and Special Education endorsement required. Appropriate teaching endorsements include:

  • 100-Prekingergarten through grade three, including special education

  • 103-Prekindergarten through kindergaren

  • 106-Prekindergarten through grade three

  • 1001-Birth through grade three inclusive settings

The successful candidate will exhibit:

  • A basic understanding of the needs of three and four-year-old children and the ability to relate to children with different academic and behavioral needs.

  • Professional communications skills.

  • The ability to maintain caring and helpful relationships with children, families, and staff.

  • Initiative and the insight to anticipate problem situations and respond accordingly.

  • The ability to create a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment for all students and staff.

  • Consistent and punctual attendance.
