Renewable Energy Group Senior Analyst, Commodities & Risk Management in Ames, Iowa
The purpose of this position is to be responsible for tracking and reporting of all commodities and hedging activities of REG. Serve in a consultancy role to the Operations Control Team, Procurement, Accounting and Sales Groups regarding hedging activities and the subsequent impact upon financial position and reporting requirements.
Review, analyze and monitor REG’s positions (biodiesel-related, co-products, etc.) and risk management limits. If needed, recommend actions based on reported position levels
Assist with monitoring and reporting the Risk Management Policy
Work closely with Operations Control Team, Procurement, Sales and Accounting Teams to ensure compliance and proper execution of the overall risk management for REG
Research, define, and implement internal control policies and procedures that can be utilized for commodities purchasing and hedging activities
Enhance or further develop reporting tools to capture, organize and account for commodity hedge and derivative positions for GAAP reporting in accordance with ASC 815
Reconcile accounting system derivative position reports to third party broker statements and reconcile any differences
Develop and review financial models for commodity hedge positions relating to projections and gross margin analysis
Review the tracking and analysis of the commodity hedge transactions, including realized and unrealized gains and losses
Review and assist with electing and documenting hedge accounting relationships and reconciliations for normal purchase/normal sale items
Prepares and presents risk management reports to various departments/individuals within the company
Coordinate projects with external and internal auditors
Assist with report generation for Board of Directors and Risk Management Committee
Cross train in other Risk Management activities to provide task redundancy
Perform other duties as assigned
Education Required: 4 year bachelor’s degree – Accounting, Finance, or related degree.
Experience Required: 2+ years of financial analysis and/or accounting experience, experience with commodity accounting management a plus.
Advanced Excel skills (V-lookup, macros, etc.)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Comprehensive math, algebraic and logic skills
Strong working knowledge of balance sheet and P&L accounts
Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Special skills or knowledge preferred:
JD Edwards/TriplePoint hedge accounting software experience
ASC 815 knowledge
