Renewable Energy Group Senior Manager, Total Rewards in Ames, Iowa
The Total Rewards Manager leads Renewable Energy Group in all initiatives in the area of compensation and benefits while ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal laws. Will be responsible for the planning, execution, compliance, policy development, communication and administration of compensation and benefits programs. Will provide compensation expertise related to salary structure design and administration, short and long-term incentive programs, job evaluations, and market data trends. To achieve the core objectives of the role, this person will partner with stakeholders across the business and play an active role in formulating the on-going compensation and benefits philosophy. This role is critical as it ensures a competitive suite of benefits for the attraction and retention of employees while balancing the financial demands of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PERCENT OF TIME: Weight = 100%
Compensation Management (33%)
Design, plan and manage REG specific compensation plans and programs ensuring strategic alignment with growth drivers while maintaining cost effectiveness for the organization
Plan and administer global annual salary program during performance management cycle, including salary, bonus and equity annual processes
Work in conjunction with the in-country Payroll Managers for the REG U.S. and Europe payroll functions and oversee the global payroll program.
Manage stock plans, equity allocations and stock system
Manage and execute global recognition program
Participate in and oversee annual salary survey process to ensure market awareness of changing trends and to better guide REGs market pricing strategy
Partners with management, HR Stakeholders and others to develop and communicate compensation and benefit programs.
Lead the payroll and benefits HR team, providing work assignments, development and coaching to each member of the team
Benefits Management (33%)
Lead in implementing and administering benefit programs, including: medical, dental, disability, life insurance, workers’ compensation, employee assistance, retirement and other plans
Work with retirement plan vendors on all required benefit filings and other requirements under the IRS and ERISA.
Oversee the annual audit of all retirement plans.
Design and implement benefit communications with all employees
Ensure benefit packets, relevant compensation and benefit information in the employee handbook, and other published compensation and benefits tools, is updated and accurate.
Manage benefit administration to include plan renewals, evaluation of total benefits package, and management of total benefits package, after consultation with the Vice President of HR.
Conduct appropriate employee training, to include Benefits Enrollment Training and Best Practices Training for managers in regards to compensation management.
Evaluate compensation processes to improve, automate and augment the quality, accuracy and value of the services and information provided.
Strategy, Process Improvement & Compliance (34%)
Examine global reward programs against business strategy and implement forward thinking strategies and programs that drive better business outcomes.
Provide analytic support to strategic talent management discussions with timely and accurate reward related inputs to the monthly, quarterly and annual people KPI scorecards.
Collaborate with Vice President of HR in the administration of appropriate policies, practices, and processes, in compliance with state and federal laws relating to compensation and benefits.
Responsible for managing and tracking employee compensation and benefit-related costs, while staying within a pre-set budget. Create process to manage annual salary, market supplemental and promotions budget and provide business leaders with line of sight to quarterly and annual spend.
Investigate best practices within the external market and conduct annual benchmarking reviews around identified compensation priorities.
Consult with business stakeholders to support the development and documentation of career paths ensuring alignment with internal job levels/pay relationships.
Manage incentive plan design - executives, employee, sales, and support review of calculations.
Understand business drivers and opportunities, balancing regional consistency and business flexibility. Make business recommendations to senior leadership and support implementation of approved recommendations.
Preferred Education: 4-year degree in business administration or human resources. MBA is a plus.
10+ years of HR/compensation management experience with demonstrated competence in the management of base pay and incentive pay.
Team leadership and budget management experience
Experience in ADP and/or other Payroll Systems
Expertise with payroll regulations, IRS code, FLSA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA and related state and federal regulations highly desired
Demonstrated experience in benefit & compensation administration in a global environment and HRIS proficiency.
Experience applying compensation expertise and influencing senior customers across diverse businesses, industries, locations and demographics
Excellent analytical and organization skills with proven ability to make informed, data-driven decisions
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds on all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information and materials.
Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply federal and state laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Experience with current office software and database programs to produce reports and analyze data to support business and HR programs and initiatives.
Strong analysis/quantitative skills and the ability to translate analysis into actionable tasks.
Experience with major Incentive Compensation Management systems, including building of complex compensation plans.
Ability to make independent decisions and recommendations to resolve issues.
