Mary Greeley Medical Center Senior Virtualization Engineer in Ames, Iowa
As part of the Infrastructure Team, this position will work both within the team and across Mary Greeley IT to design, implement and support the virtual desktop / application infrastructure that is necessary for the successful operations of the Medical Center. They will work closely with the Manager and the Enterprise IT Architect to ensure system designs align with all strategic and operational principals.
Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
Performs high level work on both on prem and cloud infrastructure. Systems will include virtual servers, virtual desktops, virtual applications, etc.
Designs, Plans, Implements and Supports hardware, operating systems, such as zero / thin clients, windows desktop operating systems, and virtualization platforms.
Keeps systems current and lifecycles hardware and software as necessary.
Migrates on-premise workload(s) to cloud service provider(s) as is deemed appropriate and valuable to MGMC. Azure Cloud Services VMware ESX
Designs, implements, and administers desktop and application virtualization solutions.? Manages and maintains virtualization environments used by MGMC. VMware Horizon Citrix Workspace
Focuses on the automation of all above processes using industry best practices to create efficiencies and reduce errors.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field; OR, Expert Level Certification in one of the core system areas: ex. Microsoft MCSE, VMWare VCDX, Citrix CCE. OR minimum of six years of demonstrated relevant experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
A minimum of six years of demonstrated expert level skills and knowledge in one or more of the following core system areas: Microsoft server operating systems, LAN/WAN infrastructure, virtual servers & storage management, software application systems, system security, or system interfaces.
Demonstrated experience with desktop and application virtualization platforms (VMware Horizon and Citrix WorkSpace).
Demonstrated ability to design and manage highly available and self-healing infrastructure.
Ability to interact with staff, physicians, visitors, consultants, and vendors in a helpful and positive manner.
Ability to handle multiple requests/needs simultaneously; ability to remain calm when experiencing critical system issues.
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially when handling confidential information.
Excellent customer service and project management skills.
Ability to plan, organize, implement, and document complex systems and to configure systems to be consistent with medical center policies and procedures.
Ability to quickly and completely solve complex, inter-related problems using hardware/software research and analysis tools.
Commercial and business awareness - must be able to demonstrate business value and have a good understanding of the organizations key business processes.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Previous experience in a hospital information systems department
Previous experience with electronic health record management systems
Previous experience with VMware Horizon, Citrix Workspace, or other application and desktop virtualization platforms
Previous experience with IaaS, PaaS, SaaS administration
Previous experience with cloud Identity and Access Management solutions such as Azure Active Directory
Previous experience with cloud security solutions
Previous experience with infrastructure automation through scripting, playbooks, etc
