Summary

Are you an experienced, hands-on professional who wants to help students create, make, and innovate? The Student Innovation Center is seeking a Woods and Metals Shop Supervisor who will provide supervision, coordination, customer service, and equipment management in our first floor makerspace.

This first floor makerspace has oversight for metal working, wood working, assembly, and paint or finishing. This makerspace includes equipment such as a paint booth, dust collection system, jointers, planers, band saws, table saws, sanders, drill presses, cutters, grinders, welders, lathes, CNC lathes, CNC mills, etc.

The Shop Supervisor will have the opportunity to create engaging, welcoming workspaces and ensure safe, hands-on experiences. The person in this role will coordinate and supervise makerspace operations, resources, and services, including training students and maintaining records; scheduling supplies, services, and equipment; operating, maintaining, repairing, and servicing equipment and tools; creating and implementing operational and safety procedures and standards; developing and delivering hands-on trainings and experiences; providing customer service; and supervising makerspace users and student employees.

The successful candidate is a self-starter who exercises tact and diplomacy, has a strong focus on safety, has demonstrated skills in building and maintaining relationships, exhibits attention to detail, and has excellent leadership, supervisory, and communication skills. The successful candidate also has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to operate and become a subject matter expert on all equipment in the makerspaces. All staff members are expected to interact professionally and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.

Additional information: This position works Monday - Friday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with 30-minute breaks at noon and 5:30 p.m.

Example of Duties• Coordinates the physical operations of a building.• Responsible for seeing that building and construction issues are brought to a timely resolution.• Partners with Facilities Planning and Management to develop and coordinate construction plans.• Serves as primary contact and liaison for internal and external stakeholders.• Provides input on budget planning activities.Level Guidelines• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity• Provides guidance to students
