Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.Experience with web application development using modern PHP frameworks, database integration and mapping tools, APIs, and other standard web technologies.Experience maintaining, updating, supporting, and creating a wide variety of moderately complex web applications.Experience using standard software development practices to conduct a variety of tasks including software design, coding, source control, debugging, and documentation.Experience leading and participating in small project teams providing client-driven web application development and project management.Experience providing training and mentoring to full-time and part-time (or student) developers.Experience consulting with end users to define project specifications and scope.

Job Description:

IT Services (ITS) at Iowa State is seeking applicants for a Software Developer for Web Application Development. The chosen candidate designs, analyzes, develops, implements, and maintains moderately complex applications. Consults and advises clients on application development projects of a medium to large size.

This position will be part of a team of full-time and part-time (student) developers that provide web application development services to the university.

This position:

  • Collaborates and consults frequently with non-technical ISU staff to gather business requirements for web applications

  • Develops outlines and specifications for development projects for new and existing applications

  • Manages projects and leads small teams to develop, test, maintain, and support such applications while providing regular status updates to the associated clients

  • Researches and evaluates emerging web application technologies and assess their relevance to future projects and services; and develop core libraries that are used on multiple projects that are specific to the needs of the team’s development environment and integrate with other university services.

  • May assist the team leader in assigning and prioritizing workload and mentor other developers.

ITS provides core computing, network services, enterprise systems, and information security resources to the students, faculty, and staff of Iowa State. ITS partners with IT professionals from around campus to provide more specialized IT resources to ISU’s academic and business units.

  • Advanced web application development knowledge

  • Strong project management and prioritization skills

  • Ability to work successfully within a team that includes both full-time and part-time (student) peers

  • Ability to communicate effectively with collaborators which includes both campus partners and external vendors
