Required Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of Windows client and server operating systems, including installation, configuration, networking, multi-departmental Group Policy, multi-departmental Active Directory, MECM, and troubleshooting problems.

Familiarity with MacOS, iPadOS/IOS, JAMF, Papercut, and Android. Understanding of network protocols, configurations, and troubleshooting, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.

Familiarity with security best practices, including firewalls and antivirus software. Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell to automate tasks and improve efficiency.

Basic knowledge of database systems like SQL Server, including backup and recovery procedures.

Knowledge in applications, econometric applications, and languages like Stata, R, Python, SAS, ArcGIS, MATLAB, Latex, Office, and working with large data sets to be a resource for faculty, staff, or graduate students.

Knowledge of ISU storage options including onsite and cloud based and the ability to properly set departmental level configurations and permissions.

Job Description:

The Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) at Iowa State University invites applications for a Systems Analyst II position. This role is critical to the success of CARD’s technology infrastructure and operational excellence, ensuring seamless computing and network system support. Reporting directly to the CARD Director, the Systems Analyst will collaborate with a dynamic team of IT and computer support specialists. The primary work locations will be Heady Hall and East Hall, supporting the computing and network systems of CARD, the Department of Economics, and the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, with a primary focus on CARD.

The position involves a dual responsibility split, with approximately 65% of the role dedicated to CARD in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and 35% to Information Technology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and security of technology systems within these academic and research-focused units.

The Systems Analyst II position offers an exciting opportunity for you to thrive in an independent, hands-off work environment. This is a perfect fit for a Systems Analyst I or II looking to grow, take on greater autonomy, and shape impactful systems independently.

Example of Duties

  • Deploys, maintains, and troubleshoots systems infrastructure and services including email, storage, and identity and access management.

  • Manages and monitors all installed systems and infrastructure ensuring the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.

  • Collects and writes technical requirements for new systems.

  • Analyzes and implements an emerging technology that affects Iowa State University campus-wide.

  • Modifies, maintains, and updates complex software.

  • Prepares and conducts system and programming tests which may require the interfacing of diverse hardware and software.

  • Reviews potential applications and designs hardware/software interfaces.

  • Implements best practices for scalability, supportability, ease of maintenance, and system performance.

Leveling Guidelines

• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals

• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues

• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems

• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests

• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff

• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity

• Provides guidance to students
