Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineering Department (ME) at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a Teaching Laboratory Specialist II to provide guidance and oversight to the Boyd Lab fabrication facility. The Teaching Laboratory Specialist is responsible for departmental research and teaching laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, user training, safety inspections, and general operations.

These responsibilities include coordinating teaching lab schedules, designing and testing lab protocols, acquiring lab experiment materials, updating laboratory and safety manuals, verifying the accuracy and precision of instrumentation, and interacting with Facilities Planning and Management personnel and other technical service people. Additional responsibilities include providing training to faculty, staff, and students on proper safety procedures in labs and with lab equipment.

The successful candidate will have effective management and organizational skills, the ability to work well with a diverse population, and the ability to communicate effectively. All staff members are expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior.
