The City of Ames is conducting this recruitment to establish a Civil Service eligibility list for this classification. The list will be valid for up to one year from the date of certification by the Ames Civil Service Commission and may be used to fill one or more vacancies in this classification. The Transit Operations Manager, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Transit Operations, performs administrative duties involved in the operations, supervision, and personnel activities of CyRide, while performing related duties as required.

Compensation Philosophy: The City of Ames has a compensation philosophy that the starting pay for our merit salary ranges establishes the salary for employees who meet minimum requirements of a position. The median of any merit salary range is for an employee who can reasonably meet all expectations of the position responsibilities without initial extensive training. In order for employees to have an opportunity to grow within their position, we may consider a candidate's education, experience, and skills above the minimum requirements when looking at a salary closer to or slightly above the median. The median for this position is $88,615 annualized.

Evaluates daily operations to maximize performance of Transit Drivers and Transit Dispatchers. Supervises and investigates fixed route and para-transit operations for passenger safety, ADA compliance, and Transit Driver efficiencies. Analyzes weekly, monthly, and quarterly operational statistics and trends and determines appropriate operational action. Facilitates communication between Operations and Maintenance. Works with maintenance division, customers, and other City departments to provide oversight for the operations of bus stop locations. Arranges random, reasonable cause, and post accident testing for drug and alcohol. onitors performance of Transit Drivers and Transit Dispatchers and recommends corrective and/or disciplinary actions to the Assistant Transit Director - Operations. Conducts periodic check rides of Transit Drivers to ensure compliance with CyRide policies and safe operating practices. Conducts annual performance reviews for Transit Drivers and Transit Dispatchers. Responsible for developing, analyzing and setting operational standards for para-transit, fixed route, and Moonlight Express. Coordinates the investigation of all para-transit and fixed route accidents and recommends appropriate action to the Assistant Transit Director - Operations. Acts as the Assistant Transit Director - Operations in his/her absence. Creates and provides training for the "Passenger Relations" program. Conducts group tours and presentations. Receives, investigates, and resolves complaints from the public. Responsible for providing web page updates for information related to customer service and transportation. Answers questions and inquiries from the public. Designs marketing programs for all CyRide services. Responsible for the majority of the operational budget. Performs administrative duties involved in marketing, planning, scheduling, and supervision. Ensures that Transit Drivers meet and comply with all federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. Prepares detailed written reports, recommendations, and oral presentations to the Director and Assistant Transit Director - Operations regarding overall operational performance and deficiencies.

Other Job Functions: Performs duties of the Transit Trainer, as necessary. Acts as Transit Driver, Transit Dispatcher, and Laneworker as needed to ensure efficient operation of the transit service. Represents CyRide at employer promotions and other community functions. Attends special committee meetings. Participates in City-wide teaming activities.
