Job Description

Only applicants who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and Selective Requirements (listed below) will be placed on the eligible list.

The Department of Natural Resources encourages all applicants to upload a current resume and cover letter to their online application.

The Iowa DNR’s Parks, Forests, and Preserves Bureau is currently seeking a dedicated and passionate State Park Technician to join our team at Lake Anita State Park. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about natural resource management, committed to maintaining the beauty and safety of our park, and eager to engage with the public to promote our Bureau mission.

Lake Anita is a recreational park located in the rolling hills of Southwest Iowa. Lake Anita provides ample opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. There is a 162-acre lake providing ample fishing, kayaking and swimming opportunities. The park has a busy campground located just a few miles off of I-80 providing opportunity to meet travelers from around the world. The park has a 4.5-mile paved trail that connects to the city of Anita. There is a public hunting area that borders the park and the area is bountiful with wildlife.

This position will work in the park under the direction of the park manager. In this role, you’ll ensure that all park facilities—including offices, restrooms, campgrounds, shelters, lodges, and more—are kept clean and in excellent condition. You'll operate and maintain a diverse range of equipment safely and effectively, from mowers and tractors to boats and power tools.

Your responsibilities will extend to grounds maintenance, where you’ll ensure that public areas are maintained to the highest standards. You’ll play a crucial role in managing our park’s ecosystems through activities like controlled burns, planting, habitat improvements, and pesticide application (after receiving training/certification). You’ll also work to manage vegetation, wildlife, and fish populations, control invasive species, and keep our multi-use trails safe and well-maintained.

Engaging with the community will be a key part of your role. You’ll represent our park enthusiastically at public events and interact with media to promote our mission. Collaboration with local groups, chambers of commerce, and friends of the park will be crucial as you work to promote the park and its programs. You’ll also patrol the park to ensure visitor safety, assist with any issues, and support seasonal interpretive programs and naturalist activities.

Administrative tasks will also be a part of your duties. You’ll assist in preparing reports, managing data related to attendance, budget, and other metrics, and handle fee collection according to DNR policies. You’ll support natural resource aides and volunteers, ensuring smooth operation and collaboration within the team.
