SOUTHWEST IOWA PLANNING COUNCIL Building Permit Technician I in ATLANTIC, Iowa
[Position Summary [Under general supervision performs a variety of technical and administrative duties to support the operations of the community development department as it acts as the building and zoning department for various contracted communities. This includes providing information to the public related to the permit application process, calculating fees, reviewing plans, routing permits for inspection, and tracking permits throughout the permit process. *[Essential Job Duties:]{arial",sans-serif"=""}]{arial",sans-serif"=""}]{arial",sans-serif"=""}*
- Receives residential and commercial building and development permit applications and plans; opens plan review files; coordinates with other staff and follows up on permit status as necessary.
- Conducts plan review on routine matters, coordinates with others on more complicated plan reviews that may require outside expertise.
- Updates and generates required reports; maintains and retrieves files and documents for all permit areas; reviews amended plans for conformity with requirements; calculates fees and submits documentation for permit issuance.
- Reviews and tracks residential rental permit applications.
- Assists with updating ordinances, forms, and other documents related to SWIPCOs code enforcement program.
- Maintains positive working relationships with all parties to keep the process moving in an expedient manner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Community Development Director or the Executive Director.
