Reports To: Building Principal & Supervising Teacher

Pay Schedule: SpEd Associate

SUMMARY:

Assist student with specialized health needs to navigate the school building and access classroom instruction. Monitor for signs of fatigue, oxygen saturation, and side effects of medication. May require using apps to communicate with parents and/or other health providers.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • ?CNA preferred

  • No experience required; experience preferred in: Working with children.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and online resources.

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below are the essential tasks required for this job.

Job Tasks Descriptions

  1. Provide support to special education student in the regular and special education classrooms. Supports may include:
  • Implementing health care plans

  • Assist student in the cafeteria, at recess or any other time help is required, including getting on and off the bus.

  • Assist and monitor student while on stairs and between classes

  • Monitor student for breathing difficulities, oxygen levels, and signs of over-exertion

  • Ensure proper hydration and monitor intake/output

  • ?Utilize technology app to monitor pacemaker activity

  • Monitor for signs of cardiac arrest.

These supports are defined in student IEPs and health plans and are provided under the supervision of the school nurse.

  1. Communicate with parents/teachers/nurses/administrators/other emergency health care staff on a regular basis and when emergent or urgent situations arise.

  2. Engage in professional learning surrounding the specific health care needs of the student.

  3. Other duties as assigned.
