QUALIFICATIONS Requires the following (or equivalent qualifications):

  • Para-educator certification, two year degree in an approved area, or ability to pass competency test

  • Medication Administration Certification, CPR Certification, First Aide Training, and Bloodborne Pathogens Training

  • Three years successful clerical experience

  • Testing required

    POSITION PURPOSE To perform duties of the attendance clerk providing assistance to the administration with matters pertaining to student attendance. Prepare accurate attendance reports that meet local, state, and federal requirements. DEMONSTRATED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to use a personal computer, word processing software, database, and spreadsheet software applications, including the student information system database

  • Ability to operate a variety of office and school machines

  • Ability to multi-task various responsibilities in a pressure related environment with frequent interruptions

  • Ability to organize and complete multiple projects of varied complexity meeting required deadlines

  • Ability to apply common sense in situations and deal with or solve problems

  • Demonstrated history of satisfactory job attendance

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and protect the confidential nature of information concerning staff, students, and related information; relating professionally to sensitive matters.

  • Act as a liaison/resource for the school community serving students, staff, parents, and the community.

  • Demonstrate the ability to get along with others and foster a positive team relationship with administrators, students, parents, staff, and community.

  • Provide prompt, thoroughly completed assignments in a correct manner paying attention to detail. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Meet attendance standards and comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws or regulations.

  • Receive phone calls from parents regarding student attendance. Enter absences and reasons in the student information system database. Make phone calls to parents regarding unexcused student absences. Perform necessary investigative work regarding student attendance.

  • Accurately compile daily attendance lists. Prepare attendance/absence reports as required or requested. File and maintain excuses for absences.

  • Assist in implementing student attendance policy. Monitor and track students who are tardy, missing periods, or days, contact the principal with attendance issues as directed.

  • Send out passes for students who have been released to leave school.

  • Notify school nurse of all students who are absent due to injury, communicable disease, hospitalizations, other health related conditions, or general absences of five days in a row.

  • Administer medications to students and record appropriate data. Ensure that medications are issued to the appropriate student in a timely manner.

  • Direct student workers in the attendance area to deliver passes/messages to students and disperse homework requests to teachers as directed by the nurse or principal. Supervise and work with students as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL EFFORT Continuous sitting, speaking, hearing, and visual effort. Frequent standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and repetitive hand motions. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 35 lbs. Close mental and visual attention. Fine motor skills and fine manipulation abilities necessary. Work involves numerous irregularities including complicated, complex, repetitive, and varied tasks. Continuous general concentration necessary. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Occasionally exposed to dust, noise, odors, and other irritants. Stress associated with work pace and pressure. Work with frequent interruptions and distractions. May be exposed to germs and viruses as a part of working with children.
