The Avon production facility in Carlisle, Iowa, produces Betty Crocker baking mixes and Convenience & Food Service bakery flour. The Operations Supervisor will provide manufacturing leadership, primarily to the Baking Mix business unit of the plant, to deliver a world-class operation. Operations Supervisors lead, motivate, and develop employees to achieve outstanding manufacturing results while leveraging Continuous Improvement (Lean/TPM) tools to improve individual skills and enhance teamwork. This role will work a 2nd shift schedule.
The Avon plant is located just outside of Des Moines, which is one of the fastest-growing metros in the country. Des Moines offers vibrant downtown amenities, city parks with a variety of recreation facilities, arts, theatre, and more. Des Moines is home to the Iowa Cubs baseball team, which is the Class AAA team of the Chicago Cubs and home to the famed Drake Relays, which are held at Drake University. In addition, Des Moines is within proximity to Big Ten, Big 12 and Missouri Valley Conference universities and the activities associated with those institutions
Establish and sustain sound relationships with all employees in order to foster an inclusive and respectful environment where innovative methods are used to involve others in creative solutions to issues
Educate, develop and motivate a manufacturing work group to achieve required production results, improving individual technical skills and enabling collaboration across boundaries while working safely
Ensure that production facilities and finished products meet the company and government standards for quality, sanitation, and safety
Serve as a member of the department Platform Team to drive out losses and develop/engage team members in utilization of Foundational Systems
Provide business leadership which demonstrates commitment to department and plant objectives on a day to day basis
Facilitate, coach, counsel, and guide the manufacturing work group to ensure that they have the ability to deliver results year over year through the use of continuous improvement tools and strategies
Function as a technical resource in areas of system operations and product requirements
Facilitate the effective interchange of information between work groups, cross-functional resources, and other members of the plant and corporate teams
1-3 years manufacturing or related experience
Demonstrated leadership skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills
Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting work priorities, ambiguity, adversity and change
Demonstrated understanding of technology and ability to provide solutions to technical challenges
Strong conceptual skills and ability to implement change
Sound analytical and business judgment including demonstrated problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
