SUMMARY Provides anesthesia care for patients of all age groups undergoing surgical experiences and provides consultative services to other areas of the hospital requesting assistance in areas pertaining to anesthesia.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Examines and interviews patient to determine degree of anesthetic risk, and formulates a plan of care that best meets the needs of the patient and surgeon.
Administers safe anesthesia including induction, maintenance, emergence and airway management according to current standards of care
Demonstrates skill in the areas of airway management, I.V. access and invasive monitoring line placement both in and out of the operating room environment.
Provides appropriate documentation and orders according to current standards of care during procedures.
Instructs nurse anesthesia students and other appropriate personnel in characteristics and methods of anesthesia administration, signs and symptoms of reactions and complications, and emergency measures to employ.
Provides consultative services for acute and chronic pain management.
Demonstrates appropriate airway management skills for: neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Demonstrates appropriate anesthesia care plan and delivery for: neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Develops appropriate post-operative pain management for: neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Completes all other duties as assigned.
Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations and standards of care guidelines.
Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.
Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an approved school of nursing and nurse anesthesia program.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond appropriately to common inquiries or complaints from customers, patients, families, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to management, the public and/or board of directors.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Licensed as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of Iowa.
Certified by the American Association of Nurse Anesthesia as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
BLS/ACLS certification upon hire. NRP & PALS are obtained within six months of hire. All certifications are a requirement to work.
