Description: Elementary PrincipalJob Summary:REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools SUPERVISES: 1. All personnel assigned to his/her elementary school. 2. Other personnel as assigned by the Superintendent CONSULTS WITH: 1. All Administrators, Business Office, Transportation Director, Director of Buildings and Grounds, Director of Teaching and Learning, Food Service Director POSITION GOAL: Lead, supervise, administer, and manage the Elementary School so as to promote the educational development of each student as well as the professional development of each staff member. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establishes, maintains, and is accountable for an effective learning environment in the school.
Establishes and maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according to due process to the rights of students.
Fosters positive interpersonal relations among students, teachers, and administrators.
Promotes positive action toward the realization of school objectives through efficient procedures, curriculum, extra-curricular programs, and the establishment of staff, student and community committees.
Assumes the responsibility for the observance and implementation of board policies and administrative regulations.
Directs the coordination of the school's pupil personnel services.
Assumes major responsibility in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of all certificated personnel assigned to the school.
Assumes major responsibility in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluation of all non-certificated personnel assigned to the school.
Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of all personnel and the facility, exercise decisive leadership in crisis situations.
Assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all classes and for the development of duty schedules so as to provide the most efficient and effective supervision of the lunchroom, playground, etc.
Reports to the Superintendent of Schools regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, finance, curriculum, facilities, equipment and supplies.
Develops a program of public relations in order to further the community's understanding and support of the educational program.
Advises the superintendent's office on activities in the school.
Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required by state law as appropriate to the school's administration.
Prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests and monitors the expenditure of funds.
Defines and delegates appropriate supervisory responsibility for all school activities. Plans for the proper conduct of participants and spectators at all public events.
Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
Plans and supervises fire drills, tornado drills and crisis plan drills.
Designs and implements a building-level communication system which effectively meets the needs of the staff and students.
Keeps abreast of trends, promising ideas, and research in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional literature and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
Exercises leadership in establishing and clarifying short and long-range educational goals.
Assumes the responsibility for the safety and administration of the school site.
Provide timely responses and communication to parents, students, staff, and peers.
The PreK-2 Elementary Principal:
A. Plans, coordinates, directs, and supervises the Title 1 programs for the public and non-public schools in the district. B. Assumes responsibility for the recruitment, selection, and recommendation to the superintendent the employment of a competent professional staff for the Title1 program. C. Meets periodically with public and non-public school administrators within the district to plan, coordinate, and evaluate activities and expenditures within the Title 1 program. D. Prepares and submits all reports relative to the Title 1 program as may be required by the Department of Education or the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. E. Provides periodic reports to the superintendent and Board of Directors as to the progress of the operation of the Title 1 program and the degree of integration of this program into all of the public and parochial schools within the district. Qualifications:1. Appropriately licensed in Iowa as an elementary school principal2. Iowa Evaluator Approval3.
