Special Education Teacher (Behavioral, Social Emotional, and Therapeutic Focus)
We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team, specializing in addressing the unique needs of students with behavioral, academic, social-emotional, and therapeutic goals. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional skills in working with diverse student populations, employing trauma-informed approaches, and demonstrating adept problem-solving abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to students' diverse needs; with a focus on behavioral, social-emotional, and therapeutic goals.
Utilize trauma-informed strategies to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel valued, understood, and empowered to succeed.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including counselors, therapists, and administrators to address students' holistic needs and foster their overall well-being.
Employ evidence-based interventions and instructional strategies to support students in developing coping skills, emotional regulation techniques, and positive social interactions.
Adapt curriculum materials and instructional methods to accommodate varying learning styles, abilities, and sensory sensitivities.
Foster positive relationships with students, families, and caregivers through effective communication, empathy, and partnership in the educational process.
Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of student progress, behavior incidents, and intervention strategies in compliance with special education regulations and standards.
Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to special education, behavioral interventions, and trauma-informed practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field (required).
Valid IOwa teaching license/certification in Special Education ( K-12 Instructional Strategist II: BD/LD - 263)
Previous experience working with students with behavioral, social-emotional, and therapeutic needs preferred.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and strategies.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community stakeholders.
Dedication to promoting equity, inclusivity, and cultural responsiveness in the classroom and school environment.
