GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Kirkwood Athletics Department seeks applications from self-motivated, results-oriented individuals with the knowledge, ability and interpersonal skills required to serve as an Assistant Basketball Coach/ Media Specialist- Digital Design. Kirkwood Community College is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division II institution and a member of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Basketball Coach will assist the head coach in the management and coaching of an NJCAA/ICCAC Division II men’s basketball program. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with operations management (e.g., program development, schedule, camps, marketing, public relations), recruiting (domestic and international), overseeing and planning the development of team systems, conducting individual workouts, and other duties as assigned.

  • Instruct athletes in how to perform their sport, team concepts, and safety.

  • Assist head coach with recruiting of athletes.

  • Understand and comply with all NJCAA and ICCAC rules and regulations.

  • Maintain required records.

  • Attend local, state and college meetings that are necessary, or required in order to fulfill job expectations and requirements.

  • Participate in Athletic Department meetings and fundraising events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Note to Candidate: This position requires frequent travel, work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays. Professional references will be required at a later step in the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be subject to a credential and criminal background check and driving record review.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES-(MEDIA SPECIALIST/DIGITAL DESIGN)

  • Assist the Kirkwood Athletics Department in coordinating all sports communication activities for 6 NJCAA/ICCAC Division II sports at Kirkwood Community College

  • Manage all Kirkwood Athletics social and digital media channels

  • Create/design various forms of visual content/graphics for all sports teams within the athletic department

  • Manage all streaming technology within the athletic department; including training and supervising game day personnel

  • Create/assist with any marketing and promotional content as needed

  • Coordinate with sports information director and photographer on media day and game day photography

  • Stay up to date on all athletic media trends

  • Assist in maintaining a comprehensive media relations program for a local, regional, and nationally relevant athletic department by interacting professionally with internal staff and external customers.

  • Act as on-site administration (OSA) and game day management as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in a sporting event setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • One to two years coaching experience preferred.

  • Must have flexible hours to meet practice, games, and travel.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
