This is a safety sensitive position:
Employee will be enrolled in a random pool of employees performing similar job functions
Subject to computer-generated random selections for alcohol and/or drug testing
Subject to reasonable suspicion alcohol and/or drug testing
Hours of employment may vary depending on the needs of the District
Salary:
$22.21/hour

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 18 years of age
Furnish all auto mechanic small hand tools
Obtain and maintain a minimum of a valid Class B CDL license, with proper endorsement within required time frame
Obtain and maintain a valid DOT physical and valid Medical Certificate, per FMCSA requirements
Minimum of five (5) years large truck and/or auto mechanic experience, preferred but not required
Pass pre-employment and all subsequent agility tests
Pass pre-employment and subsequent driving history checks
Pass pre-employment and periodic background history checks
Register and maintain an account with the FMCSA Clearinghouse
Must approve CRCSD queries with the FMCSA Clearinghouse within 24 hours
Pass a pre-employment substance abuse screening
Pass all random alcohol and/or drug tests
Pass all reasonable suspicion alcohol and/or drug tests
Ability to prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines and adapt to continuous interruptions
Willing to learn new skills and unfamiliar systems
Work well with others, including all personality types
Effective problem-solving skills
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
Knowledge of, or ability to navigate, Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas
Use effective verbal and written communication skills
Accept and implement coaching and training
Essential duties and skills:
Overhaul, repair and service all district vehicles, sub-assemblies, and accessories including but not limited to gasoline, LPG, electric and diesel buses, vans, cars, and trucks
Ability to understand instruction and technical manuals
Use various diagnostic tools
Ability to read and interpret schematics
Perform vehicle safety inspections
Maintain a cooperative attitude and build rapport with students, peers, supervisors, parents, school personnel, and the community
Use effective and professional verbal and written communication skills
Present self in a professional manner including attire and being alert and attentive
Successfully complete all required trainings, meetings, classes and professional development
Accurately complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner
Abide by federal law, state law, and district policies, procedures, and expectations
Utilize technology when required
Safely and appropriately operate various types of school buses, district vehicles, and equipment
Emergency road service calls
Property maintenance including snow removal
Substitute bus and van driver
Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands:
Repeated sitting, standing, climbing, walking, stooping, bending, squatting, crawling, kneeling and maintaining balance for extended periods of time
Repeatedly pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and moving objects(s) and/or students weighing up to 125 pounds for 100 or more feet
Continuous use of hands, fingers, and wrists to pinch, grip, and manipulate fine objects and tools repetitively
Using both hands and legs simultaneously
Reach over head for extended periods of time
Rapid mental/muscular coordination
Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
Accurate depth perception and clarity of vision at varying distances to see small details
Peripheral vision and the ability to distinguish colors
Operate hydraulic, electric, and air equipment and tools
Ascending and descending approximately 14" steps regularly
Entering and exiting vehicles regularly
Hazards:
Contact with blood borne pathogens and/or bodily fluids

Working Environment:
May work in areas where hearing and eye protection is recommended
Will be required to work outside during hot or cold weather, varying humidity, rain, snow, sleet, and icy conditions while performing their duties
Direct contact with the public, students, and other district staff
May be exposed to heights, loud noises, bright light, fumes, dust, chemicals, and odors
Work with moving vehicles, motorized wheelchair lifts and other equipment
