Job Description

What You Will Do:

In this internship, you will have the opportunity to work alongside Transamerica team members on business-impacting projects. You should have a general interest in accounting and finance, be comfortable with Excel, and possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Finance Operations interns will support compliance, IRW tax, or business analysis & technology departments by contributing to external and internal reports ensuring the integrity of accounting and financial reporting, and implementing changes driven by accounting standards.

What Success Looks Like:

By working collaboratively with others, interns are responsible for but not limited to:

  • Work with internal and/or external financial statements to facilitate quarterly processes

  • Provide consolidated results and analytics to leaders

  • Create IFRS, statutory, investments, or related financial statements

  • Analyze budgets and financial statements (book accounting) to support internal and/or external decision makers

  • Extract financial data from various accounting and information systems; compile, consolidate and conduct appropriate analysis of data

  • Assist in improving procedures, updating, and organizing documentation of reporting and planning processes

  • Adhere to the company's framework of internal controls

  • Assist in other bases of accounting and financial reporting projects on an as-needed basis

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain exposure to internal control frameworks and financial reporting models

  • Build knowledge in the use of Excel and other accounting and general ledger systems

  • Develop an understanding of core processes involved in a quarterly financial reporting structure within a large corporate environment

  • Gain exposure to Transamerica’s rich culture and the financial services industry while learning about the career opportunities available within Financial Reporting

    What You Need:

  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours a week)

  • To qualify for an internship, applicants must be currently enrolled at a college or university pursuing an accounting, finance, business analytics, or other analytical-type degree. Internships are not available for students who have completed their college education or who will graduate prior to the conclusion of the internship

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Familiarity with accounting principles

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

Working Environment:

  • Hybrid work environment for candidates near Cedar Rapids, IA office; ability to be fully remote for candidates outside of the area

  • Candidates must be able to work 40 hours/week during the 16-week internship program

Compensation

Please note that the compensation information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position only and is provided pursuant to applicable pay transparency and compensation posting laws. It is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid in certain Company locations.

The hourly rate for this position is set at $19.00.
