We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager ( On-site) within our Cabin Systems Engineering department based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Manager will lead a team of Systems engineers working on the architecture, requirements, development , systems integration / validation , and in-operations support of our Collins Aerospace Cabin Management & Entertainment Systems (CMS) . Th is Systems team is also i n charge of overseeing internal and third-party Subsystems and Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) , which are part of our CMS, working closely with internal hardware teams and/or external suppliers. Th is team owns the end-to-end Systems definition , bids/proposals, and technical roadmap of our Product lines, serves both OEM and aftermarket customers of the business jets and V/VIP segments, and works closely with our Cabin Management and Entertainment Software / Apps development team , as well as our Ai rcraft configuration team in charge of configuring, testing and delivering tail-specific Cabin Management & Entertainment Systems to each of our customers. This is a great role for exposure to external customers and suppliers , working closely with customer-facing and Product Lines Valu e Stream Leaders (VSLs) in charge of the CMS business for Collins. The manager is working closely with technical Program Chiefs/Project Engineers for tactical execution of programs, is responsible for program staffing, performance management, employee development, talent acquisition/retention, lab equipment , contractor management, and general strategic support of the business.

This is an onsite position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Relocation assistance may be available.

What you will do:

  • The primary responsibility of the candidate is to continuously improve the performance of the team through development of staff . This includes assigning resources to projects, setting and evaluating goals, coaching and management of compensation, recognition and awards.

  • The candidate will drive the consistency and evolution of the Systems Engineering discipline and team processes, methods, skill set , tools and technology; will operate within budgets; and will develop resource plans aligned with the Cabin Value-Stream Leader s .

  • Work with the Cabin Systems leadership team to develop and promote a unified vision for the department, and foster employee engagement and empowerment.

  • The candidate will collaborate across programs to identify efficiencies, share resources, and support the development of best practices, necessitating an ability to clearly communicate objectives and status to audiences with varying degrees of understanding of the products and technology.

  • The candidate must demonstrate sound decision-making skills, strategic thinking, networking skills, and the ability to accurately forecast resource needs.

  • The successful candidate will lead the engineering team using strong interpersonal, mentoring, and negotiating skills . In addition, the candidate will be responsible for adhering to Collin's process methodologies.

  • The candidate needs to have experience in estimating, tracking, and communicating cost, schedule and risk, in support of bids/pursuits and program execution metrics.

  • Uses portfolio and product line vision to think beyond the immediate situation, and explore multiple potential paths

    Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

  • Ability to build trust and confidence with customers, engineers, technical project managers, and value stream leaders to achieve program and business objectives

  • Demonstrate leadership by example, building trust and inspiring people through a shared vision where people feel valued, empowered, and fulfilled

  • Possess 10 + years of experience in Systems engineering

  • Experience in proposals and projects execution leadership role that included responsibility for scope, schedule, and budget managemen t

    Qualifications we prefer:

  • S pecific engineering experience with Cabin Management Systems

  • Specific experience in managing technical roadmaps

  • Experience in leading project or engineering teams

    Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
