Overview

Shive-Hattery has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer supporting our Food and Pharma team in our Cedar Rapids, IA office, with up to 5 years of experience in the design and leadership of structural engineering projects.

As an early career Structural Engineer at Shive-Hattery, you will be an integral part of our team serving our current and future clients, learn from our teams on how to service clients, and overall allow us to serve each other at an elevated level to ensure we can create a better world for all. Throughout your role in Shive-Hattery, you can touch a variety of work, not only varying your daily but allowing you to work with various clients, ranging from local clients to Fortune 500 companies.

What Youll Do:

  • Work closely with senior project and team members to support your learning and development within Shive-Hattery with the goal of becoming the primary client contact for at least one client within two years of starting with the company.
  • Design projects as a Structural Engineer working on projects for various local and nationwide clients ranging from food producers, medical manufacturing, bioscience and technology, etc.
  • Work with experienced engineers and technicians while coordinating work within multi-discipline teams.
  • Engage in the structural design portion of projects, make design recommendations and decisions, and oversee the completion and quality of construction drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation.
  • Assist with establishing and management of structural scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Interest in mentoring and teaching other team members.
  • Additional responsibilities include overseeing shop drawing reviews, field data collections, job site observations, field data entry, and other responsibilities relating to overall project needs.

Who You Are:

  • Ability for licensure in the State of Iowa within a year of starting with Shive-Hattery.
  • You are curious, teamwork oriented, and interested in helping others.
  • Must be capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Structural design experience using concrete, steel, and masonry. Experience with wood and precast is not required, however, a plus.
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively, which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing work.
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills, able to be comfortable presenting design solutions to project team members and project owner.
  • Experience using Revit, 3D software (Navisworks/Recap), structural engineering design software, and Microsoft Office software is preferred.
