Job Title: Semi Trailer Mechanic

Job Description

Candidate will conduct preventative maintenance on tractors to comply with D.O.T. regulations and safety standards. They will perform quality and accurate maintenance and repair on tractors and trailers, diagnose problem areas, and ensure all required repairs and replacements are carried out efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers to meet D.O.T. regulations.

  • Diagnose and repair brakes, engines, transmissions, air conditioning units, air chambers, wheel bearings, wheel seals, dollies, doors, door seals, lights, tractor bodies, and tires.

  • Install and repair satellite units and align axles as needed.

  • Conduct P.M. services and minor damage repairs, including welding on aluminum and steel.

  • Maintain organization of the shop and follow proper shop procedures according to management.

  • Assist other shop staff members with maintenance tasks as needed.

  • Perform various ground and property maintenance tasks.

  • Assist drivers with questions regarding tractor/trailer repairs and direct them to the necessary departments as requested.

  • Participate in departmental training involving updated repair procedures, safety awareness, and equipment changes.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with diesel mechanics, trailer mechanics, automotive repair, and truck and trailer maintenance.

  • Proficiency in brake repair, trailer repair, electrical systems, air brake systems, mechanical repair, hydraulics, preventative maintenance, and diesel engine maintenance.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, weld, and inspect transmissions and pneumatics.

  • 2-year Diesel School certification or 2 years of experience in a diesel shop or farm.

  • Ability to lift 70 lbs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Possess a toolbox and basic mechanic's hand tools up to 1 1/2", including air tools (shop provides 3/4" & 1" if needed).

Work Environment

The work environment is a diesel shop with 8-10 service bays on one side and a quick oil change lane on the other. There are 15 mechanics working between 2 shifts. The first shift is from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (flexible if different hours are needed), and the second shift is from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. The immediate opening is for the second shift, but first shift is also an option if preferred.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00
