Job Title: Maintenance Manager

Department: Manufacturing

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function: The Maintenance Manager’s responsibilities include ensuring the facility and all equipment are operating and maintained to produce food products at a high level of quality, at the most efficient cost, in a timely and complete manner.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Plant Manager/Director of Operations

Positions that Report to you: Maintenance Technicians

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, plans, and oversees all Maintenance and Facilities work; including, but not limited to, repairs, Preventative Maintenance and site improvements. This may include personal involvement in department work as required.

  • Communicates to affected departments any work impacts from maintenance department work.

  • Plans, oversees, and verifies all equipment maintenance work, both scheduled and unscheduled, including work final completion and documentation. Ensures required work data is entered, monitored, and saved.

  • Works with Project Engineering Dept. to identify, plan, schedule and resource site improvements for proposals to Senior Management implementation upon approval.

  • Prioritizes and schedules department workloads, including repairs, Preventative Maintenance, and project. Schedules manpower and resources to best meet overall Hy-Vee Commissary needs. This includes contractor services required for department work.

  • Communicate and coordinate work schedules with Plant Manager and Senior Project Engineer for work prioritization verification. Assist in resolving scheduling conflicts.

  • Assigns and oversees department employee and contractor activities to meet department goals and responsibilities.

  • Responsible for department safety procedures and equipment meet Hy-Vee’s workplace environmental, health and safety requirements and meet Federal, State and local requirements for workplace health and safety.

  • Identify, plan and schedule acquisition of all department equipment, tools, and materials. Ensure all materials are stored and maintained in accordance with Hy-Vee’s requirements.

  • Work with Project Engineering Department for installation, set-up and maintenance of site CMMS system.

  • Ensure all department maintenance and project data is entered and maintained for historical review and planning. Ensure all department employees are trained and utilizing system as appropriate.

  • Review, code and approve material/parts invoices for accounts payable.

  • Ensure compliance to plant policies and Federal and State regulations including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SQF standards

Education and Experience:

High school education or equivalent. 3-5 years maintenance experience. Management experience preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities (Direct Reports):

Responsible for instruction, assigning work, reviewing work, planning work for others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, and acting on employee problems. Manage department workload to manpower and resources to effectively balance department costs and overtime with Commissary needs and improvements. Recommend employee disciplinary action as appropriate.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Must be able to be on feet (standing and walking) for 8-12 hours a day.

  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

  • Must be able to work long hours at times under extreme temperatures

Working Conditions:

  • The duties of this position are performed mostly in the production area, which is wet and refrigerated (@38 degrees).

  • Frequent deadlines exist while handling multiple tasks.

  • Working directly with employees, technicians and vendors.

  • Exposure to confined spaces , crawl areas, electrical panels, pneumatics, hydraulics, plumbing, ammonia lines, liquid nitrogen lines, gas lines

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Personal Computer, pallet jack, forklift, telescopic forklift, scissor lift, ladders, industrial equipment, a wide array of hand tools both electric and manual, multi-meter, and welder

Financial Responsibility:

Track expenses and oversee the budget for maintenance

Contacts: Has daily contact with contractors, employees and suppliers/vendors. Has occasional contact with federal or state regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
