Contributing to Our Core Focus:The Transportation Engineer Associate will work in a variety of civil engineering capacities within the District, including:
Assisting the Fairfield Resident Construction Engineer providing oversight and administration of construction projects; ensuring that highway construction work is accomplished in accordance with all contract documents; performing construction inspection, contract administration, project finalization, and other duties in the office.
Open communication with peers, other IDOT offices, contractors and the public is very important to the success of the projects and the office. Working conditions will generally be outdoors. Applicants must have the ability to work safely in and around construction sites.
Specific knowledge of highway design and construction is necessary
Effective communication skills both written and verbal
A valid Driver’s License must be possessed and maintained
Licensure: Applicant must also possess an Engineer certificate issued by the Iowa State Board of Engineering Examiners within 18 months of hire. Licensure as a professional engineer is required within 9 years of hire for continued employment as a Transportation Engineer Associate. Work Hours: 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, normal work hours Travel: This position will require some overnight travel.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management.
Possession of a verification of graduation with major course work in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management.

Additional Qualification Requirements
Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain one or more of the following certificates, licenses, or endorsements:
Certification as an engineer intern by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board
Licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board is required within 9 years for continued employment; temporary training assignments will terminate within six months following a second attempt to obtain a professional engineer license or nine years from date of hire.
