Position Purpose

The House Supervisor is a Registered Professional Nurse at MercyOne Medical Center-Clinton and serves as a clinician, team member and professional and practices under these roles according to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice and Professional Performance (2021). The House Supervisor is responsible for the management, staffing and clinical functions. The House Supervisor is responsible for serving as representative of administration when administrative personnel are not in-house. The House Supervisor is responsible for the direction of all hospital personnel and departments in the absence of normal department supervisory personnel. The age of patients served by the House Supervisor range in age from newborn to geriatric.

What You Will Do

  • Practice within the legal scope of a registered professional nurse as outlined in the Iowa Nursing Practice Iowa Code Chapter 152 and will retain accountability for one’s own nursing practice.

  • Fulfill the responsibility of holistic (body, mind and spirit) nursing care based on the mission, vision and values of MercyOne Clinton Medical Center.

  • Utilize ANA Standards of Practice and evidence-based practice standards in the delivery of care.

  • Functions as a role model in clinical areas, demonstrating competency in clinical judgment, selected technical skills and appropriate knowledge base.

  • Supervise employees assigned to shift and advise unit supervisors as to the level of care given by shift employees.

  • Provides for individualized patient care, give direct care as necessary.

  • Observes nursing care to ensure that the care given is consistent with nursing standards and hospital philosophy.

  • Complete unit and patient rounds in order to maintain knowledge about patient population.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active registration for Registered Nurse – Board of Nursing, State of Iowa

  • Must be ACLS and PALS certified.

  • The House Supervisor must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Nursing upon hire. BSN required within three years of hire.

  • Membership in an appropriate professional nursing organization is recommended.

  • Must have 3 years of clinical experience.

  • Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Must be capable of problem solving, critical thinking and assessment of patient conditions.

  • Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills in a Windows environment.

  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
