Summary:

The Engineering Test Technician will be responsible for performing tests on electro-mechanical devices and small plastic products used with ultrasound probes. This role involves managing test samples, maintaining the lab, calibrating equipment, developing test fixtures, creating testing protocols, and executing tests to ensure product quality and compliance with industry standards. The Technician must also understand and maintain proper biohazard, electrical, and mechanical safety procedures. The role will be hands-on, working with a variety of products and with a team of experienced Design and Quality Engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Perform and Document Testing:

  • Conduct testing on electro-mechanical devices and plastic parts following established protocols.

  • Record and analyze test results, identifying any deviations or issues, log and prepare computer test reports.

  • Prepare samples for testing according to established protocols.

  • Practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.

  • Design and develop test fixtures and automated systems to support testing needs.

  • Develop test procedures and protocols and route for approval in CIVCO’s electronic document control system (windchill).

  • Provide clear, concise, fact-based results of test.

  • Document all aspects of the test and setup.

  • Organize and file the results for record retention.

  • Maintain a high standard of ethical integrity.

  • Lab Management:

  • Develop and implement Lab policies and procedures.

  • Ensure all testing areas are equipped and supplied adequately.

  • Perform routine calibration and maintenance of testing equipment.

  • Document calibration activities and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure fixtures meet testing requirements.

  • Maintain equipment in proper working order and maintain a clean work area.

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum of an Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with completed classes in laboratory or scientific fields. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience. Technical Certification is a plus. Minimum of five years of previous experience as a lab tech, machinist, fabricator, or similar role required.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to interpret and follow established procedures and protocols.

  • Ability to read and interpret standards, such as ISO 13485

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office application suite.

  • Ability to interpret drawings or 3D models and electrical diagrams.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with common hand tools. Machining capabilities are a plus.

  • Ability to analyze, draw and present conclusions from data is vital to success.

  • Working knowledge of hospital environments, and procedures is a plus.

  • Team player who can function within a team, and yet be able to work independently.

While performing the duties of this job, the individual will primarily remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged period. The individual must frequently lift and/or move equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds. The individual must operate laboratory instruments and mechanical equipment. The individual may perform constant repeating motions that include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The individual is required to perceive attributes of objects and materials.

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is located in a permanent or temporary laboratory location or production environment. Dependent on project, work may be performed at CIVCO’s Coralville, IA or Kalona, IA facility. Travel between facilities is required to support projects. Work may involve occasional exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
