EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Hold a high school diploma, GED, or equivalency.

  • Possess knowledge of, and the ability to apply, standard security procedures and best practices in school security.

  • Must have basic computer skills.

  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.

  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to engage in physical activities to include but not limited to reaching overhead, squatting/bending, lifting, pushing and pulling, kneeling, climbing and running.

Preferred

  • Law enforcement and/or military experience.

  • Experience in security related work or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Experience working in an urban, public education setting.

  • Successful experience working with children and youth.

  • CPR/First Aid training. (The District will organize and pay for this training if it has not been completed at the time of application.)

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training. (The District will organize and pay for this training if it has not been completed at the time of application.)

  • Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) training. (The District will organize and pay for this training if it has not been completed at the time of application.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patrols and monitor hallways, stairwells, toilet facilities, outside facilities, and other public and unsupervised places of the school to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff and the security of the facility.

  • Ensures a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with on-time arrival to class and to assigned locations.

  • Assists with student supervision in the breakfast and lunch periods and with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of students.

  • Assists with arrival and dismissal traffic duties.

  • Notifies building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous or unusual situations.

  • Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.

  • Follows procedures for various initiatives; including fire prevention, property patrol, traffic control and accident investigations.

  • Assists visitors with directions and securing proper identification.

  • Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.

  • Challenges unauthorized visitors and escorts them to exits.?
