REGIONAL HEALTH SERVICES OF HOWARD COUNTY MedSurg Coordinator - full-time (72 hours in two weeks) in CRESCO, Iowa

POSITION SUMMARY:iPlans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in the nursing department. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Works as charge nurse and staff nurse when needed. Responsible for the nursing department in the absence of the Director of Nursing Services.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DETAILED DUTIES:Maintains appropriate staffing and ensuring that staff is performing job responsibilities.Able to order supplies if needed in Senior Director of Nursing Services absence.Works scheduled hours and demonstrates flexibility in willingness to work extra hours. Accepts assignments or changes in assignments when working as a staff nurse or in coordinator role. Expectation of coordinator to cover unstaffed shifts. Expectation for MS Coordinator to cover OB Coordinator as needed.Has responsibility for the Medical Surgical Unit on their shift and follows chain of command on issues. Notifies physician in a timely manner for patient status changes.Exhibits an understanding of the complete workflow/process of MS as related to the organization.Monitors health care trends and community needs in developing future planning. Works with Senior Director of Nursing Services and CNO to identify, implement and evaluate change. Shows commitment to advance their department through improvements in service excellence, performance improvements and customer service initiatives.Regularly updates policies and procedures as regular internal analyses show discrepancies between current behaviors and existing policies.Communicates well with staff, directors, administration and the community we serve, helping communication purposefully flow in all directions.Assumes the role of superuser/trainer for EHR with staff.Functions as staff and charge nurse and complies with those job descriptions.Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements and overall coordination of MS nursing services.Assists with the training and onboarding process for new clinicians and acts as a resource/mentor to others on the health care team. Develops standards and procedures when needed, related to providing nursing care and for evaluating services.Evaluates performance of personnel and interpreting nursing standards to staff, committees and community groups to improve quality and quantity of service. Facilitates resolution of patient clinical issues.Facilitates documentation reviews and chart audits to assure quality of care and services in compliance with acceptable standards of care, regulatory, operational, and financial requirements, coordinates and reports quality monitoring program.Participates in interdisciplinary, interdepartmental performance-improvement activities acting on recommendations generated through these activities as appropriate. Monitor patient/employee satisfaction data.Participates in huddle, agency team and administrative meetings, staffing training and educational programs.Participates in office functions such as, but not limited to: intake, payer verification, scheduling, payroll, billing resolution, budget planning and electronic health record support.Holds crucial conversations with staff under Senior Director of Nursing Services.Ensures department(s) is accredited and survey ready.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:Registered nursing degree from nursing school.BSN Preferred-If no BSN on hire, will be required to show proof of continued enrollment within one year of hire date with completion of program within three years.Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa.BLS (CPR) required or obtained within 3 months of hireACLS, PALS, and NRP certified.For more information, or to apply now, you must go to the website below.
