General Summary:

To provide diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services

and to assist other educators in providing appropriate programming for

individuals with auditory concerns.

Essential Functions and

Responsibilities

:

  • Provide hearing conservation services related to prevention, assessment , and identification of decreased hearing.
  • Participate as a multidisciplinary team member assessing the needs of learners with decreased hearing.
  • Assist the Green Hills AEA Administration in any matter which may command priority and bring to their attention issues of concern regarding special education services and programs to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Agency audiometrists to provide hearing screenings and evaluations for learners as outlined by Agency policy.
  • Perform as a minimum air conduction thresholds and tympanometry on learners failing hearing screening.
  • Make appropriate team, disability suspect, and medical referrals as per Agency policy.
  • Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies and materials for AEA and LEA's as needed and upon request.
  • Provide follow-up hearing evaluations on learners previously referred to a physician and/or other learners known to have decreased hearing.
  • Provide or make available written reports according to AEA policies.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with audiometrists to prepare, maintain or make available file records, if properly requested, for each learner (i.e. medical referrals, sensorineural losses, or persistent decreased hearingetc.).
  • Assist in determining those learners in need of amplification such as personal amplification devices hearing assistive technology (HAT) systems, classroom audio distribution (CAD) systems, etc., for the identified learners.
  • Perform and/or report outside evaluations at least annually on those learners using amplification, including but not limited to aided performance and electro-acoustic evaluation.
  • Make ear impressions when necessary to obtain earmolds for hearing assistive technology.
  • Perform troubleshooting of amplification systems for Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners when necessary.
  • Participate in problem solving assessments by evaluating Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners' classroom performance using recognized tests and protocols.
  • Provide Aural Rehabilitation when determined as a needed service for Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners.
  • Participate in the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program in conjunction with local hospitals as determined by AEA policies.
  • Provide recommendations and accommodations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners to classroom teachers and other necessary personnel
  • Provide home visits and services for Early Access families as assigned.
  • Participates in approved professional development activities to enhance professional knowledge and skills
  • Participates in projects, committees or activities to support the agency's mission, goals and priorities.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned.
