Duties & Responsibilities: Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships)

Sport Duties

  • Must demonstrate the ability to teach and coach young people in the fundamentals and techniques of Swimming.

  • Must demonstrate the appropriate competitive drive to develop and maintain a strong swim program.

  • Must demonstrate desire to constantly improve the program and overall sports program at Central High School

  • Must demonstrate ability to motivate student-athletes to be the best they can be in the pool and in the classroom.

  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate with all stakeholders including but not limited to administration, staff, students, and booster club.

  • Support the strength and conditioning coaches to ensure proper conditioning and weight training for our student athletes.

  • Must organize and host a parent meeting, and awards ceremony for entire program each year.

  • Must provide adequate supervision before, during and after practices/games.

School Duties

  • Must plan to monitor and evaluate student-athlete’s academic progress in and out of season.

  • Must lead by example demonstrating high character and solid moral background.

  • Must promote other programs at Central High School and encourage to participate in other activities.

  • Must complete all paperwork to ensure proper communication with the Activities office (transportation, eligibility and physicals)

  • Must be willing to organize fundraisers for wrestling program

  • Must work with Athletic Boosters in working concession stands throughout the year, and willing to attend one meeting per academic year.

District Duties

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the athletic policy approved by the Davenport Board of Education.

  • Must understand the proper administrative chain of command and refer all requests and grievances through the proper channels.

  • Must know the procedures for ordering and taking inventory of equipment.

  • Must be willing to accept other duties assigned by the administration. ?

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to -

  • Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.

  • Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.

  • Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

  • Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.

  • Successful Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential

  • Iowa Coaching Authorization or Endorsement required.
