Genesis Health System Quality Safety Specialist in Davenport, Iowa

Position Title: Specialist, Quality Safety
Department: Quality

Purpose: Provides support to GHS in a dual role. The role includes assisting with the planning, coordinating and implementation of patient safety activities for GHS. Assist with investigation of patient safety issues within the organization to improve patient safety based on identified risks, Participate in unusual occurrence reviews, including apparent cause and root cause analysis, Code E's and coding of safety event occurrences. Assist the Patient Safety Officer with efforts to decrease total harm. Assist with the Safety Coach Program and the Leapfrog Application.

Report To: Executive Director, Quality and Safety

Supervisory Responsibility: No Supervision: The job does not require the provision of guidance or supervision to others. There is no formal responsibility for directing others.

Materials Responsibility: Limited: Work requires limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include supplies, equipment, inventories, small budgets, and other similar material assets. The employee has a limited amount of control over these resources. The cost of errors is also limited in terms of damage, waste or financial loss. Problems associated with material resources are not complex. The volume of resources may vary, but the level of difficulty in dealing with these resources is uncomplicated.

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Field Of Study: Nursing, or related field

Special Training: Statistical Process Control; Facilitation and Team Building

Training Preferred: Masters Degree; Certification in Healthcare Quality; Advance Patient Safety Training

Experience: More than 3 years experience required.

Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are often difficult or stressful in nature. Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations. Interactions involve gaining the agreement of others.

Physical Demands: Low Intensity: Work requires a light or low amount of physical exertion. The job requirements for manual dexterity or physical manipulation are limited. The need for physical stamina and endurance is of minimal or low significance. The degree of physical strain produced on the job is somewhat taxing, but does not usually produce fatigue and require periods of rest. Freedom of movement exists, and the job does not confine the employee to a prescribed body posture. Body movement usually involves sitting and intermittent walking. The position exceeds these low intensity demands rarely, 10% of the time or less.

Working Conditions: There are little or no adverse environmental conditions to consider.
